Narrative writing

11/25/21

  1.  Have you done a similar type of writing in the past?
  2. Does your narrative tell a story?
  3. What does this piece reveal about you as a learner?
  4. What did your classmates notice about the piece during the peer-review? Is it what you wanted the reader to notice?
  5. What would you have to change to get them to notice what you want then to notice?

Throughout my years from elementary school to high school, I would mostly write narratives as part of my assignments. By writing about my past experiences, I have stories to tell, which are always different. Each story shows how much I have grown as my own person and within my writings. In each paragraph and sentences, I try to make sure that it flows through well. However, I still struggle, because I was used to writing my essays in a different way throughout high school. The word choices that I use now, is what I often accepted into my writing, which I also struggle in as well. But this time, I want to improve my writing skills so that it can make sense and match well with each sentence and words. To start, there are pieces that my classmates have noticed during the peer review. They have noticed that I know what story I am trying to tell. However, I struggle with word choices that need to match and fit with my sentences. That is what I need to fix. On the other hand, they also noticed that my words are descriptive to give the readers an idea of what is going on in my narrative. When I saw my feedback, I knew that my readers would notice it. But, I don’t want them to keep seeing repeated mistakes. I want them to notice that by reading my narrative, they see that each event flows one after another. So, the changes that I would make are by looking for different words to fit my word choices than the words that I use now. Therefore, by seeing what I am struggling with, I am going to use my past essays and narrative essays to know where I need to start.
